Alton is apparently becoming a columnist for Mental Floss magazine., he's on the cover of the issue that I saw on the racks last week and though I didn't read the entire article, I got the impression that he's going to be a regular contributor.

What really sucks is I missed the final episode or two of Good Eats. I'm hoping the final season box set comes out soon.

I looked at the "article" in Mental Floss, and it was really only the one page of little comments; there wasn't any more to it than that, so I didn't buy a copy.

I'm not much of a fan of the magazine, and for a two-page spread, I also didn't think it was worth it.

Was there ever a final episode of Good Eats? I kept looking for an announcement or something and it never came. It seems like Food Network basically gave up on the show mid-2011 and shipped it off to Cooking Channel, where it could be further edited down for time. Gotta make room for all those commercials for Baron Ambrosia somehow.

According to the Gospel of Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Eats#The_end_of_Good_Eats):

"The crew of the show with their families are shown at the end of the first hour long episodes (Right On Q) eating BBQ while Alton narrates that truly a BBQ is just an event meant to be shared with friends and family. In the special thanksgiving episode of 2011, "Reromancing the Bird" favorite characters of the show reappeared for a last time: sister Marsha, neighbor Chuck, his niece Marsha Jr., the southerner uncle Colonel Bob Boatwright, the food agent Sid, Frances Andersen portraying uncle's Bob nurse and the dungeon master as a final tribute to their contribution to the show. At the end of the last episode, for the first time in years, Alton Brown did not finish the show with the line ""see you next time on good eats". Instead, he said, "Stay dark, America, " snapped his fingers, and the TV screen went dark.

The final episode of Good Eats, titled Turn on the Dark, was aired February 10, 2012. ..."

I don't know how I missed it. For one thing, I was oblivious that it was ending quite as soon as it did, and I thought FN would have had more build-up, like commercials on other shows. Either they didn't do that or I missed it. I'm hoping it'll be repeated, we got a new TiVo and it records over 400 hours in lo-def which is all our old TV needs, so here's to hope.

GE is partly available on iTunes through Season 14 (the final season), but Wikipedia lists the final ep as not part of season 14, and I don't see it right now as a single episode. iTunes also shows some podcasts that AB has been on if you search for his name.

I wouldn't hold my breath for it to appear again, at least not on FN. Where would they find time for it, with all the competitions and "restaurant makeover" shows they have to air?
Not that I'm cynical or anything...
Thanks for the iTunes info. Maybe I'll also look for the DVDs.

Agreed. I quit watching FN when Alton moved to Iron Chef America.

I'm glad that he is probably doing better, financially, but I'm sad that as an avid watcher of Good Eats, that his whole show seemed to change toward the end.
