ingenuiTEA

Does anybody own the ingenuiTEA? I'd like to get one - the reviewers seem fond of it, and there's a free book - but I wanted to see if anybody here had thoughts on it. It seems like AB would appreciate that it eliminates the need for a tea ball. But then again, it also eliminates the teapot.

It rocks! You use it in the microwave and then put it through the dishwasher.

I was given one. It's pretty nice if you drink tea every day.

A friend has it, loves it.

I own something similar, and the pot is still good for holding the extra tea (this makes more than one cup, and the leftovers are still steeping while you wait to draw it off). Very nice, easy to clean, avoids needing a weird strainer, and works at the office.

What a simply wonderful idea.

Okay, that looks really, really neat. And its not a bad price for a tea pot. I'd say go for it and then write a review about it for the community.

It's a FrenchPress for tea. Any Frenchpress can do what it does. We use ours for tea sometimes. yummy.

Its actually different than a french press.
There isn't any pressing in it. The tea just drians through the bottom of it when placed on top of a cup.

Re: OT

I'd recommend the show (Arrested Development) but by this point FOX has preempted/not shown it so many times I don't know when it will come on again.

Lindsay: How do you think I feel? Bob Loblaw’s a handsome, professional man and I’m only used to... well, none of those things.

Tobias: Okay, Lindsay, are you forgetting that I was a professional twice over— an analyst and a therapist. The world’s first analrapist.

I have something like it, but don't think it is the exact same one since mine has metal. The only problem is that it is annoying to clean.

Thanks all for your comments!

With the help of a GC from [info]caitriona27, I've ordered one. I couldn't resist adding a flavor sampler that included chocolate and apricot tea. I hope that it and my hotpot become the bestest of friends.

Oh, and I forgot to mention they are great at shipping. They are in NJ, I'm only in PA, and they got it here in 2 days. Others I know in MD and VA get theirs in about 3..

Not only that, but they pack everything well.

Just adding to the 'me, too!'s, I own something similar to that from a company called Teavana and it does in fact rock. It eliminates the cast-iron teapot that AB recommends, so it doesn't retain heat quite as well, but it has the benefit of allowing the tea to bloom and self-strains out the leaves. Clean-up is slightly messy, as it requires dumping as much of the sodden tea leaves as possible then rinsing out the rest, but no more so than a regular teapot would be.

We have a local teahouse around here, and they sell 'em. I'm just waiting for mine to be given to me for my birthday. ;) They drain through the bottom, like other folks have said, and the only thing I can think would be a downfall is that if you have a specific tea that has directions on how long to steep it, you need to make certain to drain the tea into the cup before the loose teaoversteeps. (Like I said, I've seen it a million times.....in a teahouse. Known for being specific about how long their loose tea is to be steeped.)

After seeing [info]tersa's, I bought one for my brother. he LOVES it. I would buy one for myself if I didn't already have a french press that I use because I usually drink more than one cup at a time. :)

Not only do I own them, I own two of the 16-oz models and one of the 32-oz models, and I sell the 16-oz models at work. I use it CONSTANTLY.

It doesn't just work on tea, FWIW; it works decently at coffee as well (so long as it's not a super-fine grind), although it gives a different flavor than a brewed coffee. It also works amazingly well for any sort of herbal remedies you may use that require steeping in hot water. It's microwave safe, dishwasher safe, definitely awesome.

One caveat: if you do multiple steeps of a tea (like I do), make certain that you don't microwave the tea leaves! You can heat up the first batch of water in the otherwise-empty IngenuiTEA, but on the second batch of water, heat it in the microwave (or with a tea kettle) and pour it over the leaves. Microwaving the leaves gives you a very odd-tasting tea.

I use it for not just loose-leaf teas, but for flowering teas (such as the variety made by Numi) which are multiple-steep and are very cool to watch open up. And it works like a dream.

One other note: if you drink multiple varieties of tea, and you have a particularly potent black one or one which is heavily flavored/spiced like a chai, you may want to either rinse it very well with hot water /right after/ you're done with the tea, or run it through the dishwasher before using it on another tea. It seems to hold onto the potent flavors of clove, cinnamon, etc. fairly well. A good rinsing or washing will fix this problem, however, and your milder green teas won't be affected by it. :)

Definitely enjoy it - I adore mine, and in fact am about to make another cup o' tea right now with it. :)

I have it too and I love it as well. I just wanna say get the bigger version if you're choosing between the two. I didn't think and got the smaller one, which only holds about 1.5 mugs of tea, or about the size of a travel mug's worth. If you're making tea for more than one person, it's good to have the bigger size.
